Overview

Operation of the network depends on devices that are active participants in the intelligence of the network such as routers and switches as well as the equipment that support them. Devices that are active in the network, those that affect the traffic intelligently, are considered active. Those that support the transmission of the data without changing it are considered passive.

Example: Passive Network Devices

Support equipment of this type includes filters, antennas and un-interruptible Power Supplies.
