Definition

Great Connect builds and manages two types of private networks: high-quality, wireless "last mile" networks for small metros and Triple Play networks for multi-tenant units. From the client premises equipment to the Internet gateway router the equipment is provisioned and maintained by GC. In the SDB, each of these network infrastructures is call a network segment.

Figure 1: Network Segments

The graphic on the right show three GC network segments: Wilkes Barre, Danville and Durango Canyon. Equipment inside the yellow cloud is GC owned. Each segment is an independent operation connected to the Internet via some "backbone" commercial carrier.

The entry point of a network segment is the gateway router or [[Root Node]]. This is the first piece of Central equipment within the network segment.
